Call for performance-based artists: Seminar with Clifford Owens
Performance Art Seminar with Clifford Owens
Seminar: Denniston Hill is the second iteration of a conceptual, performance-based project by Clifford Owens that involves a workshop-residency within an artist-residency which was initiated in 2014 at Pioneer Works, a contemporary arts center located in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The title of the project is its organizing structure; five intense days of performance art workshops led by Owens with a selected group of five participants that imagines a critical pedagogy of performance art. During the five-day workshop-residency, each participant will develop a new performance and, at the conclusion of the project, present it to the public. Previous Seminar participants include Amanda Alfieri, Melissa Calderon, Alexandria Eregbu, Ryan Hawk, Kris Grey, Noah Krell, Marko Markovic, Angeli Sion, Jenyu Wang, and Marisa Williamson.
Seminar: Denniston Hill is currently accepting applications from emerging performance-based artists. The workshop-residency includes shared rooms, one home-cooked meal per day, breakfast and lunch supplies, and a modest stipend for materials or travel. There is no fee to apply for or participate in the project.
The application window will be open from April 17 to May 19th and participants will be notified by June 16th.
Denniston Hill’s remote location offers a contemplative and restorative environment in which to work. It also means that one needs a car to get around. Staff members make weekly trips to the grocery and supply stores: however, please note that if you would like more freedom to move around you will need to rent a car. Seminar participants will be picked up if arriving by coach bus at the local bus terminal in Monticello, NY.
The Seminar runs July 17 - July 21, with a public performance on Saturday, July 22.
Participants should be available from July 16-23.
You will need to create a Submittable account below and submit an application through Submittable.
